万佛墙通常是用来存放佛像、骨灰盒的，但是放入骨灰盒或佛龛后，还可以放其他的东西。放入骨灰盒后，格位的空间已经十分有限，虽仍可放一些物品(贵重物品除外)，但不宜太多。可放的物品有逝者灵牌、生前喜欢的小物品以及小绢花圈、塑质或蜡质的供品等。
